What is ISO/IEC 17025?
ISO/IEC 17025 is the international standard that specifies the general requirements for the competence, impartiality, and consistent operation of testing and calibration laboratories. Accreditation against this standard by a recognised national body — such as JAS — is the globally accepted proof that a laboratory's results are technically valid and traceable to international measurement standards.
Accredited by JAS — an ILAC MRA signatory
The Jordan Accreditation System (JAS) is Jordan's national accreditation body and a full signatory to the ILAC Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA). This means that test reports issued by JAS-accredited laboratories are accepted by accreditation bodies and regulatory authorities in all ILAC MRA member economies — covering more than 100 countries across Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East.
What ISO 17025 accreditation requires
Technical competence
Demonstrated proficiency in each accredited test method, verified through proficiency testing and inter-laboratory comparisons.
Validated methods
All test methods must be validated or verified before use, with documented measurement uncertainty for quantitative results.
Metrological traceability
Measurement results must be traceable to national or international standards through an unbroken chain of calibrations.
Impartiality
The laboratory must be structurally and operationally independent from commercial pressures that could bias results.
Quality management system
A documented QMS covering document control, corrective actions, internal audits, and management review.
Regular surveillance
JAS conducts annual surveillance assessments and full re-accreditation cycles to confirm ongoing compliance.
