USFDA-LAAF Programme
First MENA laboratory in the USFDA-LAAF Programme
EnviroLab is the first laboratory in the Middle East and North Africa to receive accreditation under the US Food and Drug Administration's Laboratory Accreditation for Analyses of Foods (LAAF) Programme.
What is the LAAF Programme?
The Laboratory Accreditation for Analyses of Foods (LAAF) Programme is a US FDA initiative established under the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) that accredits third-party laboratories to conduct food-safety testing on behalf of importers and manufacturers seeking entry to the US market. LAAF sets rigorous requirements for analytical competence, quality management, and impartiality that go beyond standard ISO 17025 accreditation.
Why LAAF accreditation matters for exporters
A LAAF-accredited laboratory can issue test reports directly recognised by the US FDA for food import decisions. For food exporters in Jordan and the MENA region, this eliminates the need to re-test products in the United States — reducing time-to-market and compliance costs. It also signals to international buyers that EnviroLab's results carry the same weight as a US-based FDA-recognised laboratory.
A milestone for Jordan and MENA
EnviroLab's LAAF accreditation reflects more than three decades of investment in analytical infrastructure, method validation, and quality management. It positions Jordan as a credible hub for food-safety testing serving GCC, EU, and US export markets — and gives Jordanian and regional food exporters a significant competitive advantage.
LAAF scope of accreditation
- Microbiological testing of food and food-contact materials
- Chemical contaminant analysis including pesticide residues and heavy metals
- Nutritional composition and labelling verification
- Allergen detection and species identification
- Water and environmental sample analysis
